Red Tiger Eye forms through the natural heating of regular Tiger Eye, where the iron present oxidises and acquires its characteristic red colour. While this process is sometimes artificially accelerated, it occurs naturally in places where geological heat has transformed the stone over centuries.

Historically, varieties of Tiger Eye were used in various cultures as amulets for sharpness and clarity. The stone is known for its 'chatoyance' or cat's-eye effect, an optical phenomenon where a band of light appears to glide across the stone when moved in the light.

Care Instructions

Red Tiger Eye is a type of quartz and, with a Mohs hardness of approximately 7, is quite hard and scratch-resistant. Nevertheless, hard knocks or contact with other jewellery can cause small scratches — therefore, store your bracelet separately so that the beads do not rub against each other or against keys.

Brief contact with water is acceptable for the stone, but do not allow it to soak for extended periods. Remove your bracelet before showering, swimming, and washing up, and keep it away from perfume, soap, and lotion, as these can dull its silky lustre over time.
