Bronzite is an iron-rich variety of the mineral enstatite. When polished, the stone acquires its characteristic sub-metallic lustre, to which it owes its name, as its reflection is reminiscent of bronze.

Scientifically, bronzite belongs to the pyroxene group. The stone has long been valued by artisans for crafting jewellery and decorative objects due to the subtle shimmer created by the presence of microscopic iron particles within its crystal structure.

Within astrology, bronzite has traditionally been linked to the zodiac sign Leo. It is said to reflect the natural authority and determination characteristic of this fire sign, while simultaneously offering an earthy balance.

• Bronzite was already valued in Roman times; archaeologists have found various amulets and decorative ornaments carved from this mineral.

Care

Bronzite is an iron-rich mineral from the pyroxene group, with a moderate hardness of approximately 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. Consequently, the stone is somewhat susceptible to scratches and impacts — store your bracelet separately from other jewellery and avoid harsh contact.

As bronzite contains iron, prolonged exposure to moisture is not recommended: continuous contact with water can dull its bronze lustre. Remove your bracelet before showering, swimming, and washing up, dry it immediately after contact with moisture, and keep it away from perfume, soap, and lotion.

For care, wipe the beads with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. This will help the warm brown colour retain its characteristic, metallic shimmer.
