History

The name Malachite is derived from the Greek word 'malakhe', meaning mallow, referring to the deep green colour of the plant's leaves. In ancient Egypt, long before our era, the stone was pulverised to serve as eyeshadow and a pigment for murals in tombs.

In the 19th century, Malachite's popularity peaked in Russia, where enormous blocks were discovered in the Urals. Russian tsars extensively used the stone for decorating palaces, such as the famous Malachite Room in the Winter Palace, where vases, columns, and even entire walls were adorned with this precious mineral.

With a hardness of approximately 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, Malachite is a soft stone and therefore susceptible to scratches and impacts. Wear your bracelet gently, store it separately, and keep it away from keys and harder jewellery to preserve its layered pattern.

Important for Malachite: the stone is notably sensitive to water. Prolonged contact with water can damage the stone, and as Malachite contains copper, it should always be kept away from water, soap, perfume, and lotion. Therefore, remove your bracelet before showering, swimming, and washing dishes.
