The name Amazonite is derived from the Amazon River, where it was once believed these green stones were found. Although modern mineralogists have determined that Amazonite technically does not occur there, the name remains connected to the mysterious and calming energy of flowing water.

In Ancient Egypt, Amazonite was already highly prized; the stone was used for crafting amulets and jewellery. Even in the famous tomb treasures of King Tutankhamun, objects inlaid with this characteristic blue-green feldspar have been found.

Care

Amazonite is a type of feldspar and is moderately hard, rating approximately 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. Feldspar has cleavage planes, meaning the stone can crack or chip if struck hard — wear your bracelet with care and store it separately, away from harder jewellery.

Amazonite can withstand brief contact with water, but avoid prolonged soaking. Remove your bracelet before showering, swimming, and exercising, and keep it away from perfume, soap, and lotion, to prevent the soft mint green and turquoise hues from dulling.

For care, wipe the beads with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. Avoid chemical cleaners to preserve the serene colour shades.
