The name Aventurine comes from the Italian 'a ventura', meaning 'by chance'. This refers to the discovery of Italian Aventurine glass in the 18th century. When the naturally shimmering stone was found, it was named after this glass due to the striking resemblance.

Throughout history, Aventurine has been used in various cultures as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune. In ancient Tibet, for example, the stone was used to inlay the eyes of statues, symbolising a clear, visionary gaze.

• While the green variety is the most well-known, Aventurine also occurs in other colours such as blue, red, orange, and yellow, depending on the mineral inclusions.
• Before it was geologically identified as a quartz, Aventurine was often confused with jade. However, it is a completely different mineral with a distinct crystal structure.

Care

Aventurine is a type of quartz with a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. This makes it a fairly robust stone that is well-suited for daily wear. However, it's wise to store your bracelet separately, so the beads don't rub against harder materials or other jewellery.

The colour of Aventurine may fade over time with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Therefore, store your bracelet in a dark, dry place. The stone can withstand a splash of water, but do remove your bracelet when showering, swimming, or exercising. Also, avoid direct contact with perfume, lotions, and other chemicals.

After wearing, it's best to wipe the beads with a soft, dry cloth. This will remove dust and skin oils, helping to preserve the stone's natural lustre.
